Facilities

Floor cabinets

Every floor has a couple of communal cabinets per hallway section. Which cabinet is shared with your room depends on what the regulation is on your floor, or what your neighbours have discussed.

Don't store any valuables in here, as anyone can access them. There are also cabinets that are used for things to be used on a floor-wide basis, such as cleaning utensils and boardgames.

When you use them, please make sure that the cabinets are kept clean.

Corkboard

On the ground floor are two big corkboards. On these you can find general announcements regarding the building, as well as activities/events from organisations in the area. Residents themselves can also put things on these corkboards, for example if you want to sell something.

Camera surveillance

Since mid-2010 the terrain around the Hoendiep flats is guarded by camera surveillance. There are a number of cameras that watch over the parking lot and the front hall of our building. Two cameras are pointed on the gate to the parking lot.

If anything has occured, you can consult the footage at the caretaker of the Hoendiep flats: Marcel Klunder.

Internet

Internet is included in your rent. On your room is a port for an internet cable. This cable does not come included with your room. There is no central Wi-Fi router in the building, so for wireless internet you need to buy your own router.

Tip: You can buy a router together with your neighbour to save some money.

Bike Shed

Every floor has their own bike shed. You can put your bike here to keep it dry, safe, as well as to not clutter the front entrance of the building. This is also to help other residents who want to park their car on the front parking lot.

Common room

Between the elevator and the washing room is the common room of the building. This is a small room with a kitchen that you can reserve in case you, for example, are hosting a larger party or want a place to practice music.

On the door is a form on which you can fill in your info and the date on which you want to use the room. When you have filled this is, you can agree with your nestrix when you will pick up the key and leave a deposit. Please leave the room in an orderly fashion after you've used it. When you have returned the key, the nestrix will check if all is left in order.

Washing room

On the ground floor is a washing room. Here are three washing machines and two dryers for you to use. The washing machines work with a coin system. These cost €1,- a piece and you can buy these from your nestrix.

Take care of the machines! Use a washing bag for bras and do not wash pillows or blankets.

The dryers can be used free of charge. Keep in mind to clean the filter on the bottom left of the machine (see picture) after you've used it. Accumulation of dust in dryer filters can cause major fire hazards.

There is also an iron and ironing board available in the washing room, for all to use.

Intercom

The white "telephones" on your room are part of the intercom system. The code to call to your room from the front door is 00(0) followed by your full room number (f.e. 000502 for room 50-2 and 001601 for room 160-1).

With the white button with the key on it you can open the door on the ground floor. Please use this only when you know who is at the door as you will provide them with access to the building. Floor doors you have to open manually for outsiders.

Other

  • The light switch of the hall lights is at the beginning of the hall.
  • If you want to remove the inner door of your room, please put this in the central storage cabinet, or consult with building caretaker Marcel where to take it.
  • Use a filter for the kitchen sink to avoid clogging.
  • Please be mindful of your neighbours when coming home late at night. The walls are quite thin here.
  • Every floor is guarded with an electronic lock. Keep in mind to take your key ring with you when you go downstairs or you will be locked out.
